In high orbit above a world, the USS Shogun balances the need for engineering repairs with exploring a planet that seems in the grips of a catastrophe.
Prelude
Captain's Log - Stardate: Unknown
Position: 195.23 LY Rimward from Pinastri
Our sensors are still not at optimal and this is causing us problems in terms of determining facts about our current situation. Engineering has identified the need for a zero particle graviton before the proper repairs can be completed. That given, we have found a planetary body that seems to have what we need. They seem to be advanced enough, but something seems... strange... about the planet. We're still working on deciphering everything, but planetary broadcasts seem to be panicked and frightened in tone. One thing is for sure, we need to get the inductor. As a result we're in high orbit, doing whatever work we can from here before committing a team. Hopefully we can locate the item and we'll be able to get our scanning systems completely online soon.
Events
The USS Shogun engineering teams continued to work on repairs, but had difficulty bringing some systems on line, such as the ship's primary sensors. Engineering determined that if they had a ZPG (Zero Partial Graviton) device, they would have a much better chance of completing repairs to the sensor array. Main Operations found a nearby inhabited M-Class planet that seemed to have what they needed, so they set course for it. The planet was an Industrial or post-industrial civilization, but someone on it had developed a ZPG device.
As they approached the planet, Lt Rosine Heinkel used the universal translator to understand their planetary broadcasts. They appeared to be having some type of crisis. Captain Ulrich Bechir ordered Helm to place the ship in high orbit, so that they could locate the technology and acquire it. After much deliberation, it was determined that the broadcasts seemed that of a medical crisis on the planet. Doctor Fargus Skytower suggested the only plausible cause of action would be to beam soil-samples from the planet on-board and into the isolate under strict quarantine conditions. After reviewing the soil-samples, Doctor Skytower identified the disease Federation medical records. The disease was called "Cryssavirus,” and it had eliminated the entire population of four planets. It was highly contagious, painful, fatal, and there was no cure for it. However a vaccine was available that would eliminate any risk of acquiring the infection if the vaccine was administered in advance.
The away teams were given the synthesized vaccines and transported to the planets surface. The scanned the area to search for the device. LTCMDR SVAndrei Baxton located the source of a prototype ZPG module within an isolated scientific facility. Engineering teams reviewed the build and concluded that the module could be adapted to the USS Shoguns technology, where it would act as a temporary boost to the sensor arrays. LTCMDR Baxton installed transporter enhancers to the ZPG Module and the device was successfully transported aboard the USS Shogun.
