SS Athena braces itself for an approaching ion storm.
Long range scanners aboard Athena are detecting an approaching ion storm. Medical and Engineering are making the necessary arrangements for it but no problems are anticipated.
Prior to the arrival of the storm, Doctor Moonshadow inoculated the crew against the radiation that would accompany the storm. Engineering ensured that all fusion reactors were operating at peak efficiency.
With the station put on yellow alert, the first wave of the storm hit the station. Shields held and minimum damage was detected. The next wave was similar in nature. The third wave, though, caused a shield collapse, with the grid not charging properly. The station's orientation was changed in order to weather the next wave, which then took down those shields too, resulting in hull breaches on several decks.
With the final wave of the storm approaching, distress calls were sent out and Engineering worked to reroute all available power to shields. This last, most powerful wave of the storm impacted the station, causing a total shield collapse and a spike in radiation readings throughout the station. Damage control responded to numerous hull breaches throughout the station while Engineering attempted to determine what went wrong. It was soon discovered that an EPS junction, recently causing issues, appeared to have been merely repaired, rather than replaced, and it is theorized that the surge from the first or second wave of the storm caused it to blow out, resulting in no method in which to charge particular shield grids. Engineering continues to investigate while Medical begins a series of radiation treatments on the crew.
