History

Construction of Cascade Station began 060129 in the Alpha Quadrant for use as Starfleet's Delta Quadrant Headquarters in the Pinastri System. In order for the station to be placed in Pinastri orbit it was constructed is sections and shipped to the Pinastri System piece by piece. All the needed components arrived on 060601 and final assembly began. Problems began with Cascade even from the first steps of assembly. This form of construction is rare but not unheard of, however is a very difficult process. Due to the rush of getting each section complete on a very unforgiving schedule mistakes where made. Internal connections where placed wrong requiring extensive rewiring of some systems. In some places the sections actually did not fit together and metal sheets had to be welded on to make them fit together. It also seems that the effects of the wormhole on the exposed components was not factored in as for months Cascade Engineers had to replace conduits and relays on nearly a weekly basis. Finally after little more then a year the system failures and patchwork fixes became to much and Admiral Calhoun was informed the station needed to be taken partially offline for an immense retrofit.

On 070803 an Engineering team lead by Lieutenant J.G. Cyril Barthelmess began the retrofit, Cascade was able to remain online in a limited capacity however much of the station became uninhabitable.

It was on 070813 that Doctor Damion St. James began his groundbreaking research on Anti Borg Assimilation Technology, code named Project Firewall. On 080328 Lieutenant Cyril Barthelmess and his team report they are near completion and have repaired the extensive issues with Cascade Station. Admiral Calhoun, wishing to give the station a fresh start, ordered a rechristening and Cascade Station officially became Tranquility Station. On 091104 Tranquility broke from its Pinastri Prime orbit and moved into a matching orbit with Pinastri Prime around the Pinastri Star. On 091115, Starfleet Delta Quadrant Headquarters moved from Tranquility to SS Nimbus.

Tranquility is easily the largest and most impressive of the Starfleet's facilities in the Delta Quadrant. Currently, the Tranquility is the Headquarters of the UFS 1st Fleet and had been under the command of Captain Kinney Randt since 090131 until 111009. As of 111009, it is under the command of Commander Thallanor Rasmuson.

Construction and Initial Assignment

A city in space, this was one of the largest contained space borne facilities Starfleet had ever attempted to build. Today, the mushroom shape of the Ournal-class spacedock has become one of the most recognizable symbols of Starfleet.

Tranquility is a huge, multipurpose facility serving in the roles of forward base, industrial centre, operations hub, and shipyard and research facility. More protected than open fleetyards such as Cascadia, it can also serve as a starship construction facility, however The Cascadia Shipyards, at the outskirts of the system, does most of the starship construction for the surrounding sectors. As well as a key administrative nexus for Starfleet Command, the facility supports a large operation specialist base, and due to it being the home of the Diplomatic Corps frequently is the first contact non-allied worlds have with the Federation.

The Ournal Class spacedock can support up to eight Sovereign Class vessels, and up to twenty four smaller ships. Tranquility is a huge show of Starfleet strength as well as a safe haven and a place to repair starships. It also provides staging areas for many freighters and transport vessels.

The giant sensor towers and the forest of antennae allow the facility to scan for light-years around the area of the station. Non-Starfleet endeavours are welcome at Tranquility. Retail and office space along with cargo holds and numerous holodecks are available. Tranquility provides transporter service and trade arbitration if necessary.

Tranquility also has a significant tourist trade, by virtue of its role as gateway to the Pinastri Sector. Advanced medical and scientific research facilities can be found on Tranquility. The only limit regarding missions is the imagination of its commander.

The Nebula Class USS Goddard, and Defiant Class USS Cheyenne are permanently assigned to the station and are frequently used by the command crew for away missions.
