A mysterious signal brings a surprise from the past to the present.

Prelude

Captain's Log - Stardate 091230

Current Position: 318.87 LY Rimward

We are proceeding to our terminal point through what can only be called a 'back route'. We have been careful in our movement and applications so as not to bring the Sla'theri down on us... and to ensure that what our next move is, will be a surprise. This region of space was supposed to be unoccupied. Imagine our surprise when we began to receive the following faint message (in Federation Common no less), as well as perceive a station like object on our sensors: *Welcome weary traveller to the Deshima II station! Your hub in space for all your purchasing needs! Feel free to dock, enjoy our facilities and stay for awhile!* Currently my personnel are trying to figure out what exactly all of this pertains to. Hopefully soon, we'll have some answers. Curious explorers that we are, we have altered our course slightly to get to this station.

Events

A search of the ship's database by Lieutenant Commander Baxton revealed more information on the Deshima class station. Among the first Earth space stations to be widely deployed, they employed modular construction that allowed them to adapt to several uses, from civilian to military to mining. They were constructed over a period of nearly two hundred years, beginning in the twenty second century. Lieutenant Kelberry noted a .1% phase variance and some mild radiation showing up on sensors.

Further scans revealed that the station was in remarkable condition, considering it had to be at least eighty years old. No life signs were detected aboard. Several away teams left the [USS Shogun|Shogun]] to investigate.

Once on board, the teams split up. Lieutenant Commander Baxton and Ensign Schoonhoven discovered several shuttles of varying class, all obsolete, but in perfect working order. Dr. Skytower and others investigated the station's medical bay. Again, it was in good order and contained medications and equipment that had long since fallen out of use. Several recreational areas including a galley and an arboretum were observed also. The areas observed conformed to a unifying theme; all were antiquated, in near pristine condition and completely deserted.

In the course of their investigations, Commander Dwi and Ensign Sveiss discovered a large, glowing orb. Scans conducted by Lieutenant Muircastle proved inconclusive as to the object's nature, beyond recognising several metals in it's composition. Commander Dwi, feeling an odd compulsion, attempted to touch the artifact, only to be stopped by Ensign Sveiss. The Commander and Dr. Swansong moved off, but Sveiss remained behind to attempt a more in depth scan.

It was during this scan that Sveiss felt a similar compulsion to reach out and touch the sphere. Without anyone to restrain him he was sucessful in his attempt and the other away team members present witnessed him disappear for a number of seconds. Dwi and Swansong returned in time to see him reappear. Ensign Sveiss had stopped breathing and the Doctor immediately began administering CPR. Both later transported back to the Shogun, where Sveiss began making a recovery.

The away teams returned temporarily, but the Captain ordered that the ship remain for a few more days to attempt to solve the mystery of the station's appearance.
