The crew of the heavily damaged USS Sheppard tries to salvage parts for repairs, but even that proves tricky.

Captain's Log

Stardate: 101113

Location: Midgar Sector, near the Nykotos system

Well, a famous person once said that no plan survives first contact with the enemy, and it certainly was true in this case. When we left the badlands, either by chance or by plan we walked into a trap, a trap we should not of survived except for the bravery of one member of my crew. It is with a sad heart that I have to report the loss of both the AI computer known as Septembeer Firelight and the USS Denmark. Septembeer sacrificed herself for the crew, destroying the Nabraithian ship by overloading and ramming the Denmark into it. The resulting explosion, I believe, was as a result of several of the subspace weapons we know to be carried by the Nabraithians. When they ignited, they created a shockwave which destroyed the armada attacking us and severely damaging the sheppard.

The current casualty list is high and we are barely keeping life support online. As a result I have ordered the Sheppard to make best speed towards the nearby Nykotos system where, barring any assistance from the locals, we will find some place we can effect best possible repairs or, if need be, we will find somewhere on the M-class planet to live untill rescue arrives.

I am also, on the recommendations of Lt. Hamelin, sending a small team in shuttles to assess some of the debris left over from our firefight. We may be able to scavenge required parts to patch up the Sheppard. Specifically, we are looking for structural components we can use to reinforce deck 4 and other areas of the ship so they have the integrity to achieve warp.'

The Sheppard sent out teams in three shuttles to recover whatever useable parts they could from the wreckage left over from the firefight with the Nabraithians. When they arrived in the debris field, however, they were met by a squid-like creature and a merc ship which claimed the debris as their own. When the three shuttles powered up weapons, the merc ship left, promising to come back with reinforcements.

Deciding to put what little time they had to good use, the three teams went back to the debris and collected what they could. Team 1 retrieved two thruster units; while team 2, which had found an engine room whose power source was still intact, beamed a sensor relay back to their shuttle, as well as transparent aluminium panels. Team 3 collected some Tritanium coating as well as computer components.

The salvage operation ceased when a larger alien vessel, of the same type and build as the one that was previously on the scene, was detected and quickly arrived at the debris field. The shuttles were fired upon but made it back to the Sheppard with a few crew members sustaining minor injuries.
