With several days spent going over research papers over Species 1773, a method is devised to help facilitate communication with them.
Prelude
Captain's log, stardate 110227:
I have spent the last few days going over the results of Victoria and Braxx's research of our alien guest. This, combined with my own telepathic abilities, has led me to believe that telepathy might be this species' sole purpose of communication. The best that we can determine, it is communicating back and forth with the other one on Tranquility. Occasionally, we notice increased outbursts but it is believed that any other members of its species are far outside of the range of its telepathy.
With this in mind, I have tasked my officers with devising a device to help amplify its communications from a secure location in hopes of allowing it to reach further, perhaps contacting others of its race.
Computer, end log.
Events
Meeting with my officers on the bridge of Athena, I discussed with them what I proposed. I presented to them the limited contents of Enterprise NX-01's databases detailing the use of a telepathic amplifier used centuries ago. With other examples of such devices being very limited, we decided that NX-01's experience might be the best to start with. While Braxx and Lei worked on some of the more basic components of the amplifier, Victoria and Keranna worked on determining what frequency ranges the being communicated on. Penney meanwhile worked on the enclosure and basic logistics to bring the whole device together.
With basic assembly complete, we powered the device without amplifying the communications, only to see if we could narrow down the frequencies determined by Victoria and Keranna. We were immediately shocked to see the complexity of the communications, as we expected something much more primitive. While we were unable to determine the content of the telepathic communications, we immediately shunted them towards Athena's universal translator and computer core, where it started processing the communications between the beings. We left this system operational while shutting down sickbay for the afternoon, and will be alerted when it locks on to their dialect. What originally was designed to facilitate communication between it and its own species may now allow us to communicate with it directly. I cannot wait!
