Stardate: 110727
Approximately 15 minutes by shuttle from Pinastri

Alert Status: Yellow

The Runabout Hope has tractored in the captured shuttle. It was originally one from the USS Magwitch, and we are now believing the occupants were involved in the recent bombings here at Tranquility.

But now science is also reporting an issue with some of the bio-neural gel packs used in the station. with two prisoners in the brig, I hope we can keep power flowing to the security deck as medical, science and engineering fix the problem...

Stardate: 110727
Location: SS Tranquility Station (Approximately 15 minutes by shuttle from Pinastri)
Ops Staff: LT Tess Tison, LT LeighAnn Mantus, Ens Mac Gaelyth

Log Entry:

It was a very eventful shift, to say the least. I had been piloting the USS Hope, and LT Czavicevic (our chief of Security) was on the roundabout with me. We were towing a type 9 shuttlecraft that contained three Orion Syndicate prisoners, who we had recently captured during a firefight. We had disabled their weapons and propulsion systems, and had used a tractor to tow them to Shuttlebay 2.

As we were docking, we received a report that there was a new round of sabotage related malfunctions. As a result, several of my operations team and almost the entirety of the security staff were confined by a rogue energy field, unable to report for duty. Fortunately, Ens Gaelyth was not detained. He had extensive security training at the academy before joining Ops, so I offered to lend him to the Chief of Security. She accepted the offer, and Ens Gaelyth was dispatched to the Shuttlebay to assist with the Orion Consortium prisoners. (Please see his mission report for the specific details of his temporary duty assignment to Security.)

Apparently those prisoners where quite a handful. Two of them had killed one of the other while we were tractoring them to Tranquility. The remaining two prisoners had weapons and were not willing to be taken without a fight. It took a while for security to disarm them and take them to the brig. Even once there, the prisoners continued to cause problems.

Among other things, they managed to fake injuries which brought a medical team to the brig. The prisoner nabbed the Chief Medical Officer and held a knife to her throat, puncturing her skin dangerously close to her jugular vein. LTjg Czavicevic got me on comms and asked me to emergency beam the doctor out, directly to Ops. I got the transporter lock and engaged, beaming her away before he could inflict more damage. She claimed to be OK and started to walk to the Medical station, then collapsed to the floor unconscious. I called medical to the Ops Deck to assist her, then ran to her side and stayed with her until the medical team arrived.

At the same time as the drama with the prisoners, we had a series of system failures, including the comm station, tactical and the computer. It kept me busy monitoring and detecting the problems on internal sensors, and bypassing power to the problem areas. It kept engineering even busier as they tried to fix the many problems.

Among other things, replicators started randomly replicating useless items, such as hundreds of canoe paddles. The computer started rebuking Commander Randt, flirting with LTjg Brit and denying access to Cmdr Mongrain. Tactical armed itself and our attempts to bypass power to shut the weapons systems down were unsuccessful. Engineering determined the problem was in the bio-neural gel packs. Science and medical were consulted because the problem appeared to be a rapidly spreading virus. At first engineering was replacing effected gel packs, but those quickly became infected as well. Science and medical worked together to try and find a “cure” for the infected gel packs.

Meanwhile, LT Mantis and Cmdr Horrenbeck were finally able to make their way to the Ops deck. Cmdr Horrenbeck was put in change of communications with security. The comm link to the Security deck went down, making his job quite a challenge. I put LT Manthis on Main Ops, having her keep an eye on internal monitors and power allocations, so that I could focus on trying to bypass the computer's defective bio-neural components.

The two separate problem threads came together when the computer went paranoid and decided we were trying to kill it. It decided to free the prisoners in the brig, hoping they would become allies to protect it. So the computer disabled the containment fields on the cells, allowing the prisoners to break out. Security was able to contain them, but not without taking some minor injuries first.

Finally, Medical came up with a cure for the bio-neural gel pack virus. Science helped them implement it on the systems, and they began to “recover” about fifteen minutes later. As soon as the malfunction was fixed, we were able to start getting the systems under control. Lt Manthis' top priority was restoring power to security and getting the force fields on the brig working again. She worked very hard on this and was successful. Then she assisted me with getting control back of the rest of the station.

Individual Log: LT LeighAnn Mantis
Position During Mission: Main Ops

After being confined in a corridor forcefield that sprang up at random and trapped her like a bug in a web, Lt. Mantis arrived to the Ops deck. She was assigned to Main Ops, and ran a diagnostic on the computer to try and ascertain the specific problem with the inherently malfunctioning computer.

In the midst of diagnostics, Lt. Mantis also addressed the replicator malfunctions from decks 7 through 10 by bypassing the power to those replicators.

In the midst of the chaos, Lt. Mantis also transferred enough power to the Security deck so it would be a full power. Upon orders, Lt. Mantis also found a way to bypass the computer settings and restore power to the Brig forcefields.

Lt. Mantis also ensured that power on the Security deck was normal throughout the chaos and worked dutifully at Main Ops

Individual Log:Ens Mac Gaelyth
Position During Mission: Security Officer (TAD)

Started shift at approximately 1700 hours as usual, starting on the Main Operations console, awaiting instruction whilst Lieutenant Tison's team aboard the USS Hope 'escorted' our suspected Orion Syndicate members. During this time, Commander Kinney requested I assist Security Chief Czavicevic in escorting our 'guests' to the Brig, due to my security training in the Academy.

I proceeded to the shuttle bay, and made ready to receive our prisoners with Lieutenant Czavicevic, where she gave orders for them to come quietly. There seemed to be no initial response. I gave the suggestion to beam them outside their shuttle, deactivating their weapons, and keeping any consoles off-line around them. A few moments later we were fired upon.

Lieutenant Czavicevic gave them a final warning, before indicating to move up, came with, and took cover at the Port side of the shuttle's hatch, the Lieutenant at the Starboard. We waited until Ops had transported their weapons away from them, and rushed the shuttle, the moment the hatch opened fully. The occupants surrendered, almost immediately, but their demeanor suggests to me that it's not the first time they've been looking at the business end of Starfleet issued hand phasers.

The Lieutenant and I escorted the prisoners to the Brig. We put them in separate cells. There were a lot of excuses from the pair, as if it wasn't their fault, or a misunderstanding; as well as a few accusations of us 'making up' that they had fired upon us, and flat-out arrogant unconcerned actions such as dramatic yawning.

I'd gone to get a couple of tricorders to check them for more weapons, in case there was anything the transporters had missed. The male, who displayed no prior symptoms of illness, anxiety, or much care about his situation, started choking; his female companion crying out that he had a heart problem. I suspected this was 'the sick prisoner' ploy; perhaps the oldest trick in the book. I had communicated this to Lieutenant Czavicevic. She agreed, however, as we couldnt' take the risk, she called for a medic. Doctor Highwater came, with Ensign Meynara DeShaw, a Midshipman, moments after, and both entered the Cell.

As expected; the prisoner made a hostile move. He spat foam into Doctor Highwater's face when she started making medical diagnosis, and took her hostage; He had some sort of ceramic or plastic blade, which was missed by scans. It seems that he cut her with the weapon. The security chief had managed to contact ops and get the Doctor beamed out, which was, admittedly, a relief. With our prisoner re-secured, we got back to the task at hand.

The lieutenant started interviewing the female, at first, seeming more talkative; although personally I hold the opinion she'd say near anything to get her out of trouble. The male in the meantime decided to act out, including offering me the, 'use' of the female.

The Female claims to have been captured and repeatedly abused during her time with the members of the Orion Syndicate. She admitted to killing one of the members of her team on the shuttle, as well as the male prisoner's involvement in the recent bombings. She claims Skellios is actually a Codename used in the Syndicate. I suggested that there was a possibility that she had been in custody before now, and had been given rough treatment or had physically resisted. She claims not to be a member of the syndicate, however, I'm sure we could settle that matter for sure once we examine the weapons for skin cell traces and fingerprints. The Male was claiming ignorance, which doesn’t surprise me in the least.

During the medical examination of the female prisoner, there was the first signs, at least to me, that there was something badly wrong going on on the station. The Brig's forcefields started to flicker, and fail altogether. The male prisoner tackled, took my phaser and fired at me. The weapon was set to light stun, however, and did next to nothing to me--the benefits of my genetics, i suppose. Lieutenant Czavicevic shot and stunned him, in response. From this point onwards. I'm recommending that he remain cuffed at all times, as he has assaulted two Starfleet officers.

I was examined by Doctor Highwater, under slight protest. I felt perfectly fine, but the Doctor was having none of it, and ordered me to submit to examination. As the doctor scanned me, the female prisoner mentioned something about Lieutenant Commander Dagger. As it was the last thing she claims to have heard from the Orion commanders. I think she's trying to cut some sort of the deal. Personally I'm not buying it, and I doubt the Security Chief will either. I'm looking forward to the results of the forensic analysis of the shuttle, the corpse inside, and the weapons taken from both individuals.

I would like to go on record that I will be pressing full Charges against the male for Assault and Attempted Murder.

-----

CONCLUSION:

The virus to the bio-neural gel packs was an act of deliberate sabotage. It caused several critical malfunctions and put the station in danger. We have been so busy getting the station back under control that we have not had time to investigate. Our next step is to determine who was responsible for it and how they accomplished it. But before we can do that, we need to run a complete diagnostics and systems check on the station and assure that it is functioning properly.

Individual Reports:
Name: Jamie Czavicevic
Rank: Lt(jg)
Position: Chief of Security

The USS Hope With Lt Tison, Dr Czavicevic and my self aboard tractored the Stolen shuttle into the hanger on SS Tranquility, and I called for a security team to breach the shuttle, and Take my 3 prisoners into custody. The second team was lead by Ensing Gaelyth on loan this week to my team from Operations. During the breach one of the prisoners was killed by the other 2, but we managed to take the other 2 into custody.

We escorted them to the brig once in the cell the male prisoner Deckland Strayer went into a convulsive fit and started foaming at the mouth. I called for medical team to the brig but it was a ruse Deckland took Doctor highwater prisoner with a sharp piece of plastic. quickly thinking I had Lt Tison i ops lock on to Dr Highwater's bio signs and beam her out. unfortunately I was not quick enough to prevent Dr highwater from being injured. Medical was call to ops to treat the doctor while we questioned the Woman Morgan Blood.

Morgan claimed to be a prisoner of the other 2 she admired to killing the one dead in the shuttle and she also said that Deckland was her boyfriend, or husband, then he was her capture she did not keep her story strait. She claimed to be beaten medical scan showed signs of abuse but it was old wounds. She claimed to not be part of attacks by choice. I'm not sure I believed her.

During questioning the computer issues got worse and the forced fields to the cells went out. Deckland rushed Mac and stunned him and I fired my phaser and stunned Deckland. I ordered Morgan to sit faced the wall with her hands on her head while I Cuffed Deckland face down on the floor. medical looked over Macs phaser burns and we put Deckland back in his cell. Power was restored to the cells force fields. and questioning will resume after I make sure my team is ok.

Conclusion:

Of the 3 members of the stolen shuttles team only 2 survived, the 3rd killed by his fellow team members, I imaging this was to prevent him from speaking to us. I am not sure I believe the stories of Morgan but only time will tell if she is being truthful. One thing I do know is Deckland is Dangerous and should be watched. I believe these 3 are responsible for the bombing of our station and the runaway freighter that nearly hit us. now all I need is proof enough for court.

Stardate:110728
Location: Ops Deck of SS Tranquility

Log entry:

Most of Security was on the Brig Deck with the recently detained crew of the captured shuttle, believed to have come from the Magwich. They had their hands full interrogating the crew.

Meanwhile, Ops was having its own issues, with the computer. It was sending irregular information when requested by me, then would not allow me access at all. Cmdr Randt was being "repremanded" by the computer for not having "clean hands:, and was actually flirting with my XCO, Skotty Brit. During all this, the replicator was replicating huge quantities of unrequested items, which we had to store on Deck 77.

Individual Reports:

After being refused access to the compter, I had asked Lt Skotty Brit toassist Operations with examing the gelpacs to determine if they had somehow been damaged. Upon close inspection, it was determined that the ones in use were indeed damaged. Skotty checked out the ones in reserve and determined that they were not damaged. Analysis of the damage concluded with confirmation that the gelpacs were contaminated by a virus, similar to that of the Voyager. I had Skotty take the information on the virus directly to Medical, as we could not rely on the computer to successfully submit the data. Medical worked valiently to compile an antedote and injected it into the computer. This action had the computers free of the virus within 15 minutes.

An additional observance: During the interrogating, CMO Hermoine Hightower got too close to one of the the prisoners, and was slashed in the neck with a knife. The quick actions of LT Czavicevic and Lt Tess Tison, saved her life.

Conclusion:

It appears that the crew of the shuttle, somehow transmitted the virus. Further interrogations by Security, along with diligent review of all data, will have to be on-going to get to the bottom of this.

Log entry:

At the begining of the shift Cmdr Mongrain couldn't seem to access the beta shift science reports. When she asked me to see if I could from the center console, they worked fine. When I attempted to read them, they seemed fine. However, when I sent them to the main science station, they came up as 30 lines of "3 Blind Mice." After being accused of trying to be funny, I tried to send them again assuming that I had made some sort of error. This time the same report being 28 lines of "Pattycake." Eventually Cmdr Mongrain came to the center console and attempted it herself, which appeared on the science console this time as "Plinky the Talaxian Elf" 32 times. Meanwhile the medical console seemed to continuously get recipes. Clearly there was something strange happening with the computer system.

This was definitely confirmed when the computer said suddenly to Cmdr Randt "Cmdr Randt, please wash your hands before operating my controls. This is unsanitary." The computer... scolded the Commander more than once, seeming to have some sort of fixation on the sanitation of his hands. Then it did an imitation of Lt Tison which was actually fairly accurate and then asked if she liked it. After locking the cso out of the science files, th computer then started um... well flirting with me for lack of a better term. The computer was seeming to develop sentience, or at least something resembling it.

Then the replicator malfuctions started. Whatever the reason, deck 77 was getting filled with a continuous stream of canoe paddles... erm no pun intended. Suddenly it announced to Dr. Highwater that sensors indicated that it had a "fever", but shortly after was called away, taking Dr. Meynara DeShaw with her to some sort of emergency. Engineering certainly had its hands full. And so did medical, So I was asked to run a scan on the bio gel packs of the computer, the ones to be inserted in. They were clear of anything harmful. The ones in the computer however showed some sort of microbe was present. this was later determined to be a virus. I brought the reading by hand in a tricorder to medical. Considering the condition of the computers, we weren't about to trust it to send the information. Instead of an antivirus, we may have gotten a fresh baked pie instead with medical just getting recipes.

The Medical team successfully made an antivirus and it was injected into the system somehow, which fully restored normal operations. This wasn't a moment too soon, as the computer had become "paranoid." Thinking that the crew was trying to harm it in some way, it released the prisoners from the Orion Shuttle that we had in the brig. Fortunately, no one was permanantly hurt, though I've heard that there was quite the commotion.

Conclusion:
Mechanical sentience is always an interesting occurrance, and this has proved no less interesting. More important than what this virus did is how it got in the system in the first place.

All traces of sentience is gone from the computer system. It's back to standard operations, and the replicators are no longer malfunctioning. Now all that's left to sort out is what to do with the 215 paddles currently being stored in supply room 7...
